This is the second piece I've reviewed of yours, and I must say, I really like your style. You write epic movie trailer-esque pieces, yet you give them a sort of industrial feel and spin. Makes for a much more interesting listen than most of the fairly generic "epic" music out there. This is an awesome piece, I like how it starts off with a "punch to the face" like intensity from the first second.

Hellwreckage responds:

Thank you! Guess that just is my sound, ever since i started doing this kind of composing ive always thrown in distorted sounds, noises and things you would not expect from this genre. Why not? It sounds good!

This was a really awesome listen. Few people capture the theme of battle and war as well as you did. I really like what you did with the strings and percussion to give the song its intensity and epicness!

Ethril responds:

I'm starting to really get the idea that I should do a lot more Cinematic style songs. It's epic to make and it (for me) takes less mental effort to make, which tells me that it's a genre that I have a specific talent with. I love techno and ambient... but these are a dime a dozen and too structured most of the time. Cinematics are what we remember. Movies... games.... tv shows... that's where the most intense connections can be made. Thanks for the review! I'm so happy you liked it.
On another note... look up what Yggdrasil in Norse Mythology actually means. This is for my roots and for my mother Earth.

Really like this chillstep. The piano is nice and serene sounding. The only criticisms I'd give would be that your lower frequencies sound kind of bare for the start of the song, and I feel like if you incorporated them in a bit more, the song would have a much bigger sound. The drums also sounded a little bit loud compared to the piano. But otherwise, I really like the melodies you were working with, and this is a really cool song! You get a 5 from me

Thanks! You should check out the original: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/565636

The other version is a bit more sophisticated. Especially in the plucked parts. It doesn't have a wubwub though. Let me know how you like it compared to this one!

Oh, and the frequency thing is probably due to me having absolutely shitty speakers. I don't hear much of the lower frequencies. I just kind of hope for the best.

I love the organ, couldn't help but smile the moment this song started. I love this jazz fusion style of music, so you've definitely got my approval on this piece!

Smokazzi responds:

Organs are awesome!

I like this, the build was nice, albeit a little long. This song kind of reminded of the game "Fez", just like happy and kind of alien at the same time. I like how you made the bass play 16th notes in the background. It gave the piece a cool almost urgent flow at times. And then how you brought it down to 8th notes at other parts chilled it out again. Awesome piece, I really enjoyed the listen :)

ArienV responds:

Thank you for the lovely comment and nice score :)
To be compared to FEZ is a huge compliment! Disasterpeace is a big inspiration to me.
This is perhaps the most personal song I've done so it's a bit scary putting myself out there more, so to speak. I just make music I like to listen to and if other people like it, it's a big blessing to me.
:)

I like this a lot, and given that I don't usually like more simple laid back music, that's saying something. Really relaxed me as I was winding down and getting ready for bed. Although, I didn't really get a sad feeling from this song, quite the opposite almost. It felt serene and somewhat blissful. Very pretty piece, really enjoyed it!

RufusTheMighty responds:

Thank you for the review! It puts a smile on my face when I get this reaction because on a certain level it's my goal to write some songs that take people off guard haha

Reminds me of Phantasy Star Online quite a bit actually. And that was one of my favourite games of all time, so to me, this song is a pretty awesome piece :)

VideoGameManiac responds:

Phantasy Star Online again? I have never played it, is it some kind of Rpg or Mmo? If yes then I can totally imagine why it sounds like that :D Thanks!

What you did with the vocals was definitely cool, sounded pretty unique to me. I like at around the 30 second mark the best, it sounds medieval like almost there. Nice short build piece!

ApprenticeBlacksmith responds:

Thank you!
Yeah EWQLSyphonicChoirs is really powerfull tool for making vocals yet unfortunually it's also very demanding on CPU and without extra volume boosts like Soundgoodizer those vocals easily end up to be lost behind other sounds.
Since this track have got so much good ratings and ppl seem to be intrested around net (not in NG unfortunually...) I am planning to make full lenght track out of this.
Some changes will be made like removing harp or atleast higher nodes from it and clearing drum echoes/pattern + extending start with extra female vocals and prolly will add more horns/trumpets on the background once I figure out nice clean and not too overwhelming melody for them.

Anyway Thank you for your review!

I'm not nearly as experienced as SoundChris is, however I do agree with his comment that you should definitely try to use the lower frequencies more in the piece when it gets into the epic stage. I must say though, your intro really wowed me. It has a really beautiful sound to it. I'd almost like to hear a different version of this piece that doesn't get epic, and instead stays soft and melodic. Although I wouldn't expect you to write such a thing just for me, just in the future, I'd love to hear you come out with a full piece written like how you wrote the intro to this song, I think that'd be awesome. I guess this means you get my follow then, cause I'm looking forward to hearing more :D

cadence1 responds:

Thank you for your suggestion. It's interesting. I'm working on a piano+violin piece right now, and I was planning to make it more "epic" at some point again, but after reading what you wrote, maybe I will just keep it soft and melodic throughout. Hmmm, interesting suggestion :) I will think about it.

I might also post some of my older music here. They are more lighter - more like ambient music. It's different style for sure, but maybe some people will like them.

Another really awesome piece. I like how all of your music is quite different from one another in theme, yet all have a similar style that you have created to make your music "your music". I really look forward to hearing more stuff from you!

SteveSyz responds:

thank you! people like you are the reason why i continue to make music :D

I've been playing music my whole life, and more recently have started trying my hand at composing. I write emotional orchestral arrangements and RPG style music mainly, so check out my music and leave your comments.
